- Book: Atlas de Galápagos, Ecuador - Especies Nativas e Invasores. This digital Flipsnack book from the WWF and the Charles Darwin Foundation contains detailed information in Spanish along with photos and maps to help teach about the endemic and invasive species of the islands.
- Book: Galápagos Big 15. This virtual book provides info and photos of the 15 most emblematic animals of the Galápagos Islands. Great maps, photos, and information in Spanish.
- Book: La historia del Solitario George. From the Galapagos Conservancy, this tells the story of Lonesome George, including his life, death, and conservation efforts (in Spanish).
- Blog: Descubriendo Galápagos. This blog from the Galapagos Conservation Trust and the Royal Geographical Society contains lots of information about the geography (both human and natural) of the islands, along with details about conservation efforts.
- Article: ¿Cuánto cuesta vivir en las Islas Galápagos? - an interesting article from BBC Mundo with information about the costs of living and socioeconomic issues in the islands.
- Images: A Pinterest board with photos, infographics, illustrations and more visual images of the Galápagos Islands, including the animals, conservation, geography, maps and more.
- Photos: A Flickr Album with tons of photos depicting scenes of Baltra Island, Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal including images animals, and other useful photos for use in teaching (downloadable and free for use in educational settings and projects).
- Videos: A YouTube playlist with videos depicting scenery, children's cartoons, documentaries, home-made movies, and other video resources.
- 360 Video: Four different VR/360 scenes - some with Galapagos animals, to accompany the Punta Pitt picturebook; and a video depicting use of the scenes (what the teacher sees, what the student sees).
Lesson plans, thematic units, and teaching materials:
- Resource Guide: A Teachers Resource Guide to the Galapagos. This booklet created by the National Science Teachers Association is in English, but contains tons of useful project ideas and science experiments to do with your students.
- Books: An incredible collection of activity books from the Darwin Foundation, including graphic novels and comics, picturebooks and other great didactic resources for teaching about Darwin, conservation, Galapagos animals and more.
- Lesson: Google Expeditions - The Galapagos Islands. From TES (requires an email sign up), this lesson plan is in English, but it contains some useful information and activity ideas for a virtual reality visit.
- Mini-poster: Thematic unit essential question - "How do the actions of humans affect the ecosystems of the Galapagos?"
- Activity: Animals, Adaptation, and the Galápagos Islands: A Science Explorations Activity. From Scholastic, this audio-visual interactive tool is in English, but could provide some nice support material and resources for connecting a Spanish unit to the Science curriculum in your school.
- Activity Sheets: What are the Galapagos? - a collection in English from Big Green Rabbit and a blue-footed booby trading card (!) that could be adapted into Spanish language materials.
- Animal Cards: Galapagos Animals 3-part Cards from the Blog In Our Pond. These cards are meant for use along with the Safari Limited Galapagos Animals Toob collection.
- Puppet Resources: PuppetED. Carmen Campos' resources, photos and ideas for using puppets in the World Language classroom.
Environmental connections:
- Picturebook: ¿Dónde está mi casa? a digital picturebook by Gunter Pauli in Spanish and English. This tells the story of many Galapagos animals and includes some activities and teaching suggestions for parents and educators.
- Activity Books: Jugando y Reciclando con Reciclaman I and Jugando y Reciclando con Reciclaman II are fantastic collections of activities, comics, and projects in Spanish about the superhero Reciclaman and his recycling efforts in the Galapagos Islands (pdf booklet).
- Guidebook: Manual de Buenas Prácticas: Correcto Manejo de los Desechos - a digital guidebook with details about ecotourism, recycling, and the proper treatment of garbage (pdf brochure).
- Guidebook: Guía del Educador sobre desechos marinos - a collection of didactic materials, including lesson plans and activity sheets for grades K-12 from NAMEPA (North American Marine Environment Protection Association).
- Article: Basura marina afecta los ecosistemas y las especies en Galápagos - an excellent article about marine debris from the Ecuadorian newspaper El Universo.
- Newspaper: Galápagos: Territorio para el Buen Vivir - from the Consejo de Gobierno de Galápagos, this 11 page mini newspaper is filled with many articles about the islands, with a focus on environmental legislation.
- Curriculum Guide: Talking Trash and Taking Action. This guide in Spanish created by NOAA Marine Debris Program has a wealth of materials (games, lessons, quizzes, infographics) for teaching about the dangers of trash in our oceans.
- Book: Relatos de 44 años en Galápagos by Jacinto Gordillo is a long (188 pages in pdf format) collection of stories, remembrances, and narrations about life and the environment in the islands. It is in Spanish and suited for upper levels of proficiency (or just as a teacher resource).
